Driftwood Heart Wall Mirror
Driftwood Heart Wall Mirror
This heart shaped natural driftwood wall mirror measures 15x14 inches. The mirror is 5 inches around. I made it with driftwood I collected along the Oregon Coastline. I use nails when attaching the driftwood pieces for extra strength. To make it, I first draw the shape of the heart by hand on a reclaimed piece of wood, then cut it out and sand it so it is smooth to the touch with no rough edges. Next, I choose the driftwood pieces I'd like to use and attached them. For this unique heart I wrapped the mirror and the edges of the heart in jute.
Each heart is unique and one of a kind as no two pieces of driftwood are the same and I do not use a template when designing the shape of the heart used for the back. The colors you see in this heart are completely natural. I have not treated the driftwood in any way. Meaning it is not painted or stained. I wash and brush each piece before use to remove as much of the sand and salt as possible. I have also added a saw tooth hanger for easy hanging and adjusting.
Whenever possible, the plywood I use for the backs of the hearts is reclaimed and given new life when I cut it into something new.
